sunkissedgirlz.com Carmelita_close_upHi Sunkissed Girlz! I'm Carmelita, the SKG Role Model of the Month for March! I am a senior at Dillard University, which is a Historically Black University (also called HBCU) located in New Orleans. I have the privilege of being Miss Dillard University and it's so much fun! But, I also have good grades and lots of friends. My story will show you how to be successful in every area of your life. Enjoy!

Q: With this being your last year of college, we are sure that you are excited about graduation. Thinking back on your college years, did you study and do school work all the time?
A: Yes, but I learned last semester about this thing called balance. If you don't take time for yourself, it can make you physically, emotionally, and socially sick. We all need support and interaction with others to balance things out.

Q: Besides studying, what other activities are you involved in, and which one takes up the most of your time?
A:
I am Miss Dillard University, which is an exciting responsibility that I am very devoted to. I'm also devoted to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Student Government Association, and my job as program assistant in the Dillard University Sustainability Program. Miss Dillard definitely takes up a lot of my time.

Q:
Tell us a little more about being Miss Dillard University. What do you have to do?
A:
My job is to promote and provide community service projects for my peers. Also, I work with nine other people, including Mr. Dillard and representatives from every class council. This helps make my job a little easier. I am also a part of the Student Government Association, so I have other obligations in addition to those required for my role as Miss Dillard.sunkissedgirlz.com Carmelita_as_miss_dillard_and_AKA

Q:
Wow! How do you balance it all? School plus being Miss Dillard and a program assistant!
A:
Well, I keep 3 planners. On my dry erase board, I write down what I have to accomplish and erase things as I complete them. Each time I erase a task, I feel better and more confident in myself.

Q:
Do you think being involved in extracurricular activities will help young girls prepare for college?

A:
Of course! Being involved gives you a better sense of self. It's good to be involved.
