Why did you create Sunkissed Girlz? We created Sunkissed Girlz because we realized that there were very few Websites (and magazines, books, television shows, etc.) for Black girls. We wanted to create a cool, safe place for girls to play, learn, blog, and just have fun! We also want girls to learn how to analyze the media messages that they get from commercials, music videos, and other forms of media, so at times we will use clips from popular media sources to generate discussion and critical analysis. What age group is Sunkissed Girlz designed for?We designed sunkissedgirlz.com for girls ages 11-14. We hope to develop Websites for younger and older girls in the near future. Is the Sunkissed Girlz Website safe?Yes! We understand the importance of keeping girls safe on the Web, so we have done a number of things to make our Website a safe place for girls. Click here to see our privacy policy. We comply with the COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), which places parents in control of the information that is collected from children online. We also screen all blog posts so that inappropriate content is never displayed, and we never sell or provide others with girls’ information. Who writes articles for Sunkissed Girlz? All articles are written by the three members of the Sunkissed Girlz team. Click here to see their bios. We are also recruiting for the Girlz Editorial Board. Members of the board will be girls ages 11-14. Girlz Editorial Board members will assist in developing ideas and articles so that content is written for girls by girls. How can girls join the Girlz Editorial Board? We are looking for girls who like to write and are passionate about girls' issues. We're also looking for team players with lots of energy and creativity. A girl who is interested in joining the Girlz Editorial Board should send us an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it telling us why she wants to be a part of the Girlz Editorial Board. Before a girl can join the board, we must get permission from her parent or guardian. Why do you talk so much about natural hair?We realize that there is very little information out there to help girls love, take care of, and style their naturally curly or kinky hair. We’ve also seen documentaries (e.g., Souls of Black Girls, A Girl Like Me, and Good Hair) where beautiful Black girls don’t think they are very beautiful at all because of their hair texture and skin complexion. So, we wanted to create a place where girls could learn to love their hair and skin just as they are! How can I support Sunkissed Girlz? We’re glad you asked! You can support us by sending girls you know to www.sunkissedgirlz.com. Throughout the Website, you will see a small envelope to the right of articles. Click on the envelope to send articles to girls you know. You can also visit us on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter and become a fan of our pages. We also have great graphic tees designed for both girls and adults. Visit our store to purchase one for yourself and another as a gift. Are there any other Websites like yours? There aren't many Websites for Black girls, but we have found a couple that we think are cool. They are www.afropuffsandponytails.com www.brownstonezine.blogspot.com www.jewelsgirl.ning.com and www.teendiariesonline.com. We also like www.doubledutchmag.com because Black girls are represented well in the magazine even though the magazine reaches a diverse audience. We also like the following documentaries – Souls of Black Girls, A Girl Like Me, and Good Hair
